Why Choose Our Specialized Sewage Backup Cleanup in Athens, GA
This isn't something to tackle with household cleaners. Exposure can cause gastrointestinal illness and infections, and improper cleanup leaves contamination behind in materials you can't see into.
Proper PPE & Biohazard Protocols
Contractors wear respirators, eye protection, nitrile gloves, and protective suits, and set up containment to keep contamination out of clean areas. That protects your family and the rest of the house.
Licensed & Insured Independent Pros
We connect you with licensed and insured independent contractors experienced in Category 3 cleanup. Verify license and insurance with the contractor first.
Clear Pricing Before Work
Removal, sanitizing, and drying are quoted in writing. The estimate includes disposal of contaminated waste.
Rapid Local Response
Every hour sewage sits, contamination spreads further. Your call is routed to the nearest available biohazard-ready contractor near Athens.
Sewage Backup Cleanup Solutions
Sewage cleanup follows a strict sequence.
Area Isolation
Plastic barriers and negative air setups keep contaminated air and debris from reaching the rest of the house. Clean areas stay off-limits to contaminated foot traffic.
Sewage Extraction & Material Removal
Waste and water are extracted, then porous materials like carpet, pad, drywall, and insulation that contacted sewage are bagged and removed. Those materials can't be reliably sanitized.
Cleaning & Disinfection
Hard surfaces and framing are scrubbed and treated with EPA-registered disinfectants. Some contractors verify cleanliness with ATP swab testing.
Deodorization & Air Scrubbing
HEPA air scrubbers and deodorization treatments remove lingering odor after cleanup. Masking odor without removing the source never works.
Drain Line & Backflow Assessment
Backups often come from main line clogs, tree roots, grease buildup, or municipal sewer surcharges. A sewer camera pinpoints the problem, and a backwater valve guards against recurrence.

What Callers Say After a Backup
Nobody wants to make this call, but these callers were glad they did.
Tree roots blocked our main line and sewage came up through the basement shower drain. The crew sealed off the basement, pulled the carpet and drywall, and disinfected everything. You couldn't smell a thing after.
— Alan G., AthensI was ready to clean it up with bleach. They explained why porous materials had to be removed and why bleach alone wouldn't do it.
— Samantha K., AthensThe city sewer backed up into three houses on our street during a storm. The cleanup was thorough, and they suggested a backwater valve for the future.
— Henry L., AthensSewage Backup Cleanup Questions, Answered
Is sewage backup dangerous?
It is. Sewage contains pathogens that can cause gastrointestinal illness and infections, so avoid contact and keep the area closed off.
Can I clean up sewage myself?
For anything beyond a minor spill on tile, it's best left to professionals who have protective gear and know which materials must be removed.
What causes sewage backups?
Roots, grease, flushed wipes, damaged pipe, and storm overload of city sewers cause most backups.
Does insurance cover sewage backup?
Many standard homeowners policies exclude sewer backup unless you've added a sewer or water backup endorsement. Check your policy and call your agent to confirm.
How can I prevent sewage from backing up again?
A camera inspection, regular line maintenance, and a backwater valve are the best defenses, along with keeping grease and wipes out of the drains.
