Why Arcanum Calls Us for Wet Basements
Basements are below grade, so water has nowhere to drain and humidity hangs around for weeks. Cleaning one up means pumping, tearing out, and drying against a concrete slab and foundation walls that hold moisture.
Pumps & Basement-Ready Equipment
Contractors bring submersible pumps, truck-mount extractors, and LGR dehumidifiers sized for below-grade drying. Slab and foundation walls need sustained dehumidification.
Licensed & Insured Independent Pros
We connect you with licensed and insured independent contractors who clean up flooded basements regularly. Confirm license and insurance directly with the contractor.
Fast Storm Dispatch
Storm nights bring a wave of basement calls. Your call goes to an available pro close to Arcanum.
Written Estimates First
Pumping, removal, and drying are priced in writing up front. If insurance applies, many pros document to your carrier's standards.
Basement Work Through Our Network
Here's what basement cleanup typically includes.
Basement Water Pumping
Pumps remove standing water and discharge it far enough from the house to avoid recirculating. Extraction handles the last thin layer.
Carpet, Pad & Drywall Removal
Carpet over concrete holds water against the slab, and pad usually has to go. Drywall is flood-cut above the wet line, and wet insulation behind it comes out.
Sump Pump Inspection
The contractor checks whether the sump failed, clogged, lost power, or was simply overwhelmed. A battery backup pump is a common upgrade after a failure.
Seepage & Window Well Issues
Water can also come through foundation cracks, cove joints, or flooded window wells under hydrostatic pressure. White, chalky efflorescence on walls shows where moisture has been moving.
Slab & Foundation Wall Drying
Concrete holds water deep in the slab, so dehumidifiers often run longer than in upstairs rooms. Moisture readings decide when it's ready for new finishes.

What Homeowners Say About Their Basements
These all started with water at the bottom of the stairs.
Our sump pump float stuck during a thunderstorm, and we had four inches in the finished basement. The contractor pumped it, removed carpet and lower drywall, and started drying that evening.
— Kristen P., ArcanumWater kept seeping in along the bottom of one wall. The pro showed us the efflorescence and explained the hydrostatic pressure issue so we knew what to fix next.
— Doug E., ArcanumOn their advice we added a battery backup pump. It kicked in during the next outage and kept the basement dry.
— Lisa M., ArcanumWhat People Ask About Wet Basements
Why did my basement flood?
Usually it's a sump failure, groundwater pushed up by heavy rain, poor drainage at the foundation, window wells filling up, or a leak from plumbing or the water heater.
Is it safe to go into a flooded basement?
Not if water is near outlets, extension cords, appliances, or the electrical panel. Stay out until power is cut by someone who can reach the panel safely, and watch for gas smells from water heaters or furnaces.
Can basement carpet be saved?
Clean-water carpet can sometimes be dried and saved, but the pad almost always goes. Carpet exposed to groundwater or sewage is usually replaced.
How long does it take to dry a flooded basement?
Most basements take three to seven days because concrete releases moisture slowly. Readings, not the calendar, decide when it's done.
How can I keep my basement from flooding again?
Extend downspouts, test the sump each season, add a backup pump, cover window wells, and seal or repair cracks in the foundation.
