Why Kerhonkson Calls Us for Sewage Backups
This isn't something to tackle with household cleaners. Exposure can cause gastrointestinal illness and infections, and improper cleanup leaves contamination behind in materials you can't see into.
Proper PPE & Biohazard Protocols
Contractors wear respirators, eye protection, nitrile gloves, and protective suits, and set up containment to keep contamination out of clean areas. That protects your family and the rest of the house.
Licensed & Insured Independent Pros
The network includes licensed and insured independent biohazard and sewage cleanup pros. Verify license and insurance with the contractor first.
Clear Pricing Before Work
You get a written estimate covering removal, disinfection, and drying. The estimate includes disposal of contaminated waste.
Rapid Local Response
Every hour sewage sits, contamination spreads further. Your call is routed to the nearest available biohazard-ready contractor near Kerhonkson.
Sewage Cleanup Work Through Our Network
Here's what a proper sewage job includes.
Area Isolation
Plastic barriers and negative air setups keep contaminated air and debris from reaching the rest of the house. Foot traffic is limited to protect clean rooms.
Sewage Extraction & Material Removal
Waste and water are extracted, then porous materials like carpet, pad, drywall, and insulation that contacted sewage are bagged and removed. Those materials can't be reliably sanitized.
Cleaning & Disinfection
Hard surfaces and framing are scrubbed and treated with EPA-registered disinfectants. Some contractors verify cleanliness with ATP swab testing.
Deodorization & Air Scrubbing
HEPA air scrubbers and deodorization treatments remove lingering odor after cleanup. Masking odor without removing the source never works.
Drain Line & Backflow Assessment
Common causes include root intrusion, grease, collapsed pipe, or city sewer overload. A sewer camera pinpoints the problem, and a backwater valve guards against recurrence.

From Backup to Sanitized
Safety and sequence matter more here than anywhere.
Stop Using Water & Call
Don't flush or run water, keep everyone out of the area, and dial +1-877-637-9008. Using fixtures only adds to the backup.
Contractor Arrives in PPE
A nearby pro suits up and isolates the area. They assess how far the contamination spread.
Estimate & Removal
You get a written estimate, then waste is extracted and contaminated materials are removed. Waste is handled and hauled according to regulations.
Disinfect, Dry & Clear
The space is sanitized, dried, and deodorized. Rebuild can start after that.
When the Drain Backed Up
These callers all dealt with sewage in the house.
Tree roots blocked our main line and sewage came up through the basement shower drain. The crew sealed off the basement, pulled the carpet and drywall, and disinfected everything. You couldn't smell a thing after.
— Alan G., KerhonksonI almost tried to handle it myself with bleach. They explained why porous materials had to be removed and why bleach alone wouldn't do it.
— Samantha K., KerhonksonA storm surcharged the city line and backed into several homes on our block. The cleanup was thorough, and they suggested a backwater valve for the future.
— Henry L., KerhonksonWhat People Ask About Sewage Backups
Is sewage backup dangerous?
Yes. Raw sewage is Category 3 black water and can carry bacteria such as E. coli, viruses, and parasites. Skin contact, splashes, and contaminated air can all cause illness, so keep people and pets away until it's professionally cleaned.
Can I clean up sewage myself?
Small, contained spills on hard surfaces might be manageable with proper protection, but most backups involve porous materials and hidden contamination. Professional cleanup with PPE, containment, and registered disinfectants is the safer choice.
What causes sewage backups?
Roots, grease, flushed wipes, damaged pipe, and storm overload of city sewers cause most backups.
Does insurance cover sewage backup?
Often only with a sewer backup endorsement. Without that rider, many policies don't cover it, so check your coverage.
How can I prevent sewage from backing up again?
Have the main line camera-inspected and cleared, avoid flushing wipes and pouring grease down drains, and consider a backwater valve, which lets sewage flow out but not back in.
